NO MEANS NO project

The NOMEANSNO project (No Means No: A Dual-Route Framework for Understanding and Addressing Rape Acknowledgement from the Manosphere to the Mainstream) is a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Postdoctoral Fellowship (MSCA-PF) funded research project. It investigates why people often fail to recognise rape, even when sexual consent is clearly absent. Drawing on social and cognitive psychology, the project examines how social attitudes shape the way people interpret sexual situations. It also explores how these perceptions are reinforced in online environments, particularly within the manosphere, where misogynistic beliefs about gender and sexuality can become normalised.

Using a combination of surveys, experiments, and qualitative analysis, the project aims to identify the key mechanisms that lead to the mislabelling of rape as consensual sex. Based on these findings, the project will pilot-test targeted interventions, providing a foundation for future large-scale programmes aimed at improving rape acknowledgement, challenging harmful beliefs, and supporting more effective responses to gender-based violence.
